Officer Involved Shooting

On October 14, 2017, at approximately 02:08 a.m., Torrance Police officers attempted a traffic stop on a reckless driver in a green Ford ranger suspected of DUI in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Hawthorne Boulevard.  The driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued.  Officers utilized a Precision Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver.  After a second attempt, an officer involved shooting occurred near the 2900 block of Sepulveda Boulevard.

 

Officers immediately performed life-saving measures on the driver and he was transported to a local hospital.  The driver was pronounced deceased a short time later.  The driver has not been positively identified by investigators.

 

This incident is being investigated under the command and direction of Acting Captain Jeremiah Hart of the Special Operations Bureau with the assistance of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who is reviewing this incident as is routine for all officer involved shootings.
