The City of Petaluma will continue to closely monitor the fires in the Santa Rosa and Sonoma Valley areas.  Red flag winds will begin tonight and exist throughout the weekend, pushing hot dry wind and smoke over Sonoma Mountain and into the Petaluma Basin.  There are many firefighters and aircraft working and positioned to respond to increases in fire activity and fire spread.  We do NOT anticipate that the fires will spread into Petaluma.  The City of Petaluma continues to support our negihbors by sheltering roughly 1000 evacuees (down from over 2000 earlier in the week) from the Santa Rosa and Sonoma Valley areas.
