OSBI Investigates Washington Co Officer-Involved Shooting
A Washington County deputy shot and wounded a man after he attempted to stab a woman this afternoon. Earlier in the day deputies were called to assist a bail bondsman who had tracked a bail jumping client to a pasture off Highway 75 and 3900 Road. When deputies arrived, the bondsman was trying to talk with Corey Wesley Peoples (d.o.b. 10/7/1970) when Peoples retrieved a knife and put it to the throat of a woman who was with him. Deputies began giving verbal commands for Peoples to drop the knife. At some point, the female fell to the ground. A deputy fired his gun once hitting Peoples when Peoples raised the knife to stab her. Peoples was flown to a Tulsa hospital and is in stable condition. The Washington County Sheriff's Office requested OSBI special agents investigate the shooting. Agents will prepare a report of the incident for the district attorney. It is OSBI's practice not to release the deputy's name unless he/she is arrested or charged with a crime.
