The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

October 5th

0718 Hours: Officer Lenz investigated a three vehicle injury collision on Cherry Street at Central Avenue. One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

0746 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 47 year old transient male for felony vandalism, theft of personal property and possession of a controlled substance on the 5800 block of Newpark Place. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1055 Hours: Officer Pacheco contacted and arrested a 42 year old transient male on his outstanding warrants on Thornton Avenue at 880. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1140 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated a commercial burglary at the Thanh Restaurant, 5737 Stevenson Boulevard. The loss is an unknown amount of cash.

1214 Hours: Officer Horst investigated a window smash auto burglary the Home Depot parking lot, 5901 Thornton Avenue. The loss is a laptop computer and a suitcase.

1244 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated a locker theft at the 24 Hour Fitness, NewPark Mall. The loss is a wallet and keys.

1252 Hours: Officer Lenz investigated the theft of 1999 Toyota Camry (CA License # 6UPM471) on the 6200 block of Lafayette Avenue.

1334 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated a window smash auto burglary at Nijo Castle, 39888 Balentine Drive. The loss is a backpack and a laptop computer.

1741 Hours: Officer Hunter and Field Training Officer Arroyo contacted and arrested a 25 year old Fremont male for public intoxication in the Food Maxx parking lot, 39966 Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1942 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted and arrested a 41 year old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on Sycamore Street at Dairy Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

2041 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted and arrested a 48 year old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on Indian Wells Drive at Bettencourt Street. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

October 6th

1604 Hours: Officer Pacheco investigated a non-injury hit and run accident on Mowry Avenue at Cedar Boulevard.

2210 Hours: Officer Losier investigated an auto burglary at Simply Thai, 6295 Jarvis Avenue. The loss is a laptop computer.

0411 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated an auto burglary on the 8100 block of Mayhews Landing Road. The loss is a toolbox and other miscellaneous items from the trunk of the vehicle.

0419 Hours: Officer Wang investigated an auto burglary on the 6200 block of Jarvis Avenue. The loss is miscellaneous gift cards and a garage door opener.

October 7th

1205 Hours: Officer Herbert documented a hit & run traffic collision involving a parked vehicle that was struck overnight on the 36600 block of Burdick Street.

1215 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a minor injury traffic collision that occurred in the intersection of Central Avenue and Cherry Street. One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

1915 Hours: Officer Hunter and Field Training Officer Arroyo contacted and arrested a 23 year old Newark male for his outstanding warrants. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1926 Hours: Officer Losier investigated a stolen white/black Ford F550 (CA License #15298M1) and an attached yellow Vermeer wood chipper (CA License #SE527634) on the 35400 block of Reymouth Drive.

0223 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 20 year old Union City male for driving under the influence on North Bound Highway 880. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

October 8th

1202 Hours: Officer Lenz investigated an auto burglary at IHOP, 5687 Jarvis Avenue. The loss is luggage, two laptop computers and an iPad.

1244 Hours: Officer Wang investigated an auto burglary at Newark Buffet, 35201 Newark Boulevard. The loss is a backpack, laptop computer and cash.

1428 Hours: Officer Mavrakis investigated the theft of five propane tanks from a locked enclosure at the Shell Gas Station, 6788 Thornton Avenue.

2348 Hours: Officer Herbert investigated a grab and run shoplifting incident at the 7-11, 7288 Thornton Avenue. The loss is miscellaneous items.
