Hit & Run Traffic Crash

9/30 – 8:40 p.m. – Police received a report of a hit & run traffic crash in the parking lot of the Columbus Club, on West Oak Street. The responding officer observed the suspect vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed, southbound on Floraville Road. The officer was not able to catch up to the vehicle, but continued to follow the same direction of the vehicle. In the 5100 block of Floraville Road the officer and a Millstadt firefighter observed the vehicle overturned in a field. They rushed to the aid of the driver, who was in such a position that he was experiencing a difficult time in breathing. The officer and firefighter were able to partially remove the door, and position the driver is such a way as to assist in his breathing. At that time they noticed a fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle. The officer retrieved his fire extinguisher, and extinguished the flames. Millstadt Fire Department arrived and completed extrication of the driver. Millstadt EMS transported the subject to a St. Louis Hospital. On Monday October 2nd the driver, Jason A. Haley age 37 of Waterloo, was charged with Failure to Give Information After Striking Unattended Vehicle, & Operation of Uninsured Vehicle.
