**UPDATE ARREST**IMPD Homicide detectives investigating after a man is shot and killed on city's west side

INDIANAPOLIS - IMPD arrested the 17-year old male wanted in the shooting death of 22-year old James Butler.  The male has been identified as Dewayne Harris. 

INDIANAPOLIS - Wednesday afternoon detectives arrested a 17-year-old for the shooting death of 22-year-old James Butler.

With the assistance and diligence of Marion County Prosecutor's Office employee detectives were able to track the suspect's whereabouts, where members of the Northwest Flex team apprehend him without incident. The suspect was transported back to the IMPD Headquarters, and questioned by homicide detectives who subsequently arrested the suspect for murder and robbery. The suspect was transported to the Juvenile RSR but is expected to be processed as an adult in the coming days. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will review the investigative findings to determine a chagrining decision. Upon the suspect being charged as an adult, this news release will be updated to include his name and booking photo.

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Homicide detectives were called out to the city's west side after a man was shot and killed. 

Just after 7 p.m. on 09/29/2017, officers with the IMPD were dispatched to the 500 block of W 28th St on reports of a person shot. Responding officers located an unresponsive male, in his early 20's, laying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. EMS personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead on-scene. 

Homicide detectives responded and began canvassing the area for witnesses. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist with identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office (MCCO) will be assisting and will determine the exact manner and cause of death. The name of the victim can be obtained from the MCCO after proper next-of-kin notification has been made.
