Two indicted employees placed on leave, one terminated

Oct. 4, 2017 – A Harris County Sheriff’s Office sergeant and a detention officer were immediately placed on administrative leave Tuesday after a grand jury handed up criminal indictments against the two men.

A second detention officer who was also indicted Tuesday had previously been terminated from employment.

The three indictments stem from unrelated incidents that occurred over a 19-month time span during 2015 and 2016. All three cases were initially investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Bureau and forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of criminal charges.

The three individuals now face trials to determine whether they are guilty of the charges for which they were indicted.

Sgt. Marco Carrizales faces a first-degree felony charge alleging he assaulted another man while Sgt. Carrizales was working an off-duty security job. The incident occurred two years ago in October 2015. In May, at the conclusion of an Internal Affairs investigation into the incident, Sgt. Carrizales was disciplined with a 10-day suspension and a 180-day probationary period during which he was prohibited from working extra-duty jobs.

He is now on administrative leave pending further consideration of his employment status in light of the indictment.

Detention Officer Dylan Goddard is charged with the second-degree aggravated assault of an inmate more than a year ago in May 2016. Goddard’s administrative case is pending review and possible disciplinary action. He is now on administrative leave pending further consideration of his employment status in light of the indictment.

Michael Holley faces two misdemeanor charges of assaulting two inmates in separate incidents that happened while he was serving as a detention officer nearly a year ago in December 2016.

Holley’s employment was terminated in August following an Internal Affairs investigation.
