Humane Society to Hold Special Rabies Only Vaccine Clinic

Humane Society to Hold Special Rabies Only Vaccine Clinic
For Immediate Release
Wisconsin Rapids — South Wood County Humane Society is holding a special rabies only vaccine clinic for pets on Saturday, October 7th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Humane Society in response to the recent rabies exposure in Wood County. No appointment is needed. Dogs must be leashed and cats contained in carriers. Pets must be at least 4 months old to receive the rabies vaccination.
“Rabies is a very serious and fatal viral infection spread through infected salvia. All pet owners, especially those within the area of this recent exposure should take extra precautions to protect their animals.” The best protection is through vaccination,” said Bridget Chariton, Executive Director.
At the Clinic, 1-year rabies is $20, 3-year rabies: $25 (owner must provide documentation of a past rabies vaccine to qualify for 3-year). Following the Clinic, owners will receive a vaccine certificate and rabies tag via mail. The rabies certificate and tag is required for owners to obtain a pet license.
Licenses can only be issued for pets that have up-to-date rabies vaccinations, which for dogs, cats and ferrets are required by state law and county code. Most municipalities require pets are licensed annually.
Special thank you to Dr. Dean Rasmussen and All-Care Animal Hospital for administering the rabies vaccinations during the clinic.
