Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing to assist Arcadia Police Department personnel investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a male adult and the wounding of a female adult that occurred on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at 2:06 p.m.

Detectives have learned that Arcadia Police Department personnel responded to the 300 block of North Santa Anita Avenue in Arcadia, regarding a rescue call involving a gunshot victim.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the male and female were involved in a domestic dispute in an area of the Angeles National Forest known as Chantry Flats.  The male and female were arguing inside a vehicle when the female sustained a gunshot wound to her lower body and the male sustained a gunshot wound to his upper body.

In an attempt to call for help, the female drove south on Santa Anita Avenue towards the city of Arcadia.  She came to a stop on the 300 block of North Santa Anita Avenue once she was able to obtain cell phone reception and was communicating with Arcadia Police to report the incident.
 
Arcadia Police and city of Arcadia Fire Department personnel responded to the scene.  The male, a 56 year-old Hispanic, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The female, a 33 year-old Hispanic, was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover from her injuries.

A handgun was recovered at the scene.

The male is the father-in-law of the female.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
