Attempted Abduction Reported to Fruitport Police

****Information Release****

A report was filed this morning with Fruitport Township Police regarding an attempted abduction of a female high school student. The incident took place yesterday (Wednesday) morning while the student was walking on Pontaluna near the 6th Street. A stout, bald man with glasses in his late 40's driving a faded yellow van with rust on the bottom, slowed down and asked the student several times if she needed a ride to school. The driver then told the female to get in his van and the student fled.

Other social media reports indicate that the van had no side windows, however, information given to officers at the time of the report indicated that there were windows on the back of the van on the drivers and passenger sides.

The driver is described as a heavy set white male in his 40's-50's, bald, glasses and a mustache.

Police will be increasing patrols in and around the Fruitport Schools. Parents are asked to speak to their children about personal safety and to report suspicious activity.

This incident is still being investigated. Police ask If anyone has any information regarding this incident or observed a vehicle matching this description to call Fruitport Police at (231) 865-8477.
