Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives responded to 450 Bauchet Street, Los Angeles, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of an inmate.

During the investigation, detectives learned that a deputy conducting a security check discovered the inmate unresponsive inside of his cell.  Upon further check of his welfare, it appeared that the inmate suffered from an unknown medical condition.  Deputies immediately performed life saving measures on the inmate, and with the assistance of medical staff and arriving Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel, life saving measures continued.

The inmate, a male Black adult, and sole occupant of the cell, was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

The exact cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

 The investigation is on-going and there is no additional information available at this time.
