Melendez, Emanuel     Chatsworth     32

Narrative: On September 14, 2017, a resident in the 200 block of Siesta Avenue, Thousand Oaks, woke up and found that all of her jewelry was missing from her bedroom dresser drawer. The victim last saw her jewelry the previous morning and believed it had been stolen from her house sometime during the previous day. The victim’s husband remembered coming home on September 13, 2017, and finding the front door to their home unlocked. He also discovered their hidden key was missing.

The victim’s in this case used a local family owned cleaning service to clean their home. Sheriff’s Detectives spoke with the manager of the cleaning service who told them about an ex-employee named Guadalupe Sam Pedro who used to work for them. Sam Pedro had been fired in 2013 after she was caught stealing from clients’ homes.
Prior to being fired, Sam Pedro had cleaned the victim’s house on several occasions and knew where the victim kept the hidden key.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified two additional Thousand Oaks residences that Sam Pedro had attempted to burglarize. Both residences had previously been cleaned by Sam Pedro and on both occasions she was posing as a house cleaner. Thousand Oaks Detectives and investigators from the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit were able to locate Sam Pedro and identified her male companion as Emanuel Melendez. A search of their vehicle revealed jewelry that had been stolen from the victims on Siesta Avenue along with numerous other pieces of jewelry which is likely from unidentified victims. Both subjects were taken into custody for violations of PC 459 – Burglary, PC 182(a)(1) – Conspiracy to commit a crime and PC 664/PC459 – Attempt Burglary.
