An update to this message has been issued.
Shooting in the 800 Blk. S. Pine St. sends juvenile to the hospital. 
At 2213 Hrs. an Officer patrolling in the 800 Blk. of S. Pine was flagged down by community members and shown a male juvenile on the sidewalk who had just been shot. The suspect(s) had fled prior to the officers arrival in the area in a small sedan. AMR and the Santa Maria Fire Department responded to provide aid to the the victim of the assault. The young man was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
Detectives have been assigned to the case and are in the early stages of the investigation. Anyone who may have information related to the events tonight are encouraged to contact the Santa Maria Police Department at (805) 928-3781.
