Sonoma County Sheriff's Marine Unit recovers submerged stolen truck

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Marine Unit recovered a stolen truck submerged in Lake Sonoma yesterday. While patrolling Yorty Creek near Cloverdale on Saturday, September 23rd, deputies from the Sheriff’s Marine Unit were contacted by park rangers at Lake Sonoma stating they found a submerged truck at the boat ramp in Cloverdale. Yorty Creek is a small, narrow arm on the north side of Lake Sonoma.

The deputies returned yesterday around 2:30 PM with scuba diving gear and a tow truck. One deputy donned his scuba gear and was able to swim down and attach a tow line to the submerged truck so the tow truck could winch it out of the lake.

Once the white Dodge 1500 was pulled from the lake, the deputies ran the serial number and found that it had been reported stolen last December from Cloverdale. Based on the condition, it appears the truck had probably been in the lake since about that time. The level of the lake has been so high that it wasn’t visible but now the water level has dropped low enough to where this truck was exposed.
