Detectives are Seeking the Public's Assistance in a 1982 Cold Case Homicide Investigation.
Kathy Ann Miramontes (Patino)
Aka-“Sweedie”
Date of Homicide - March 8, 1982
Location: Unknown (Fremont/Union City area)
Background of Homicide Case:
On March 8, 1982, at about 5:00 a.m., a deceased female, later identified as Kathy Ann Miramontes (Aka-Sweedie) was located at approximately 5:00 a.m. on Chase Court in the Niles district of Fremont. Miramontes’ body showed signs of extreme trauma and was quickly determined to be a homicide. Fremont Detectives investigated the case, but it ultimately went unsolved. The Department’s cold case detective began reviewing the case approximately two and half years ago. After meeting with family and friends of Kathy Miramontes, her case was officially reopened in an effort to spark new leads in the investigation and ultimately provide closure to her family.
Through an extensive investigation, including interviews with multiple subjects, possible suspects, and family members, it was determined this homicide was an intentional act and possibly related to drug use and sales. Using new available technology, evidence originally collected at the scene was recently submitted for DNA testing, which resulted in new leads for detectives to investigate. Detectives have also learned this homicide may have been committed in a nearby city and the Niles location was most likely where the suspects left her body.
Miramontes was a Union City resident and her local hang outs and friends were typically in Union City, more specifically the Decoto area. Kathy left behind two boys, ages 5 and 10, as well as her parents, sister and brother, when she died.
