Suspect Arrested in Officer Assault

Folsom Police Detectives arrested Johnathan James Stoltz-Moore, 20, of Cameron Park, this afternoon for feloniously assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop Wednesday morning.  Around 8:10 a.m. on September 13, 2017, a motorcycle officer stopped Stoltz-Moore on Highway 50 near Hazel Avenue for a traffic violation.  Stoltz-Moore didn’t have a license, and gave false information about his identity.  For safety reasons, the officer asked Stoltz-Moore to drive down the off ramp and stop in a nearby gas station.  While the officer followed, without apparent reason, Stoltz-Moore abruptly applied his brakes hard enough to lock his wheels as he slowed, which resulted in the officer colliding with the back of Stoltz-Moore’s vehicle and falling to the ground.  Stoltz-Moore then fled the area, and he is believed to have caused this crash intentionally to avoid arrest. (Detectives later learned that Stoltz-Moore had a felony arrest warrant from El Dorado County for being a felon in possession of a firearm.) The officer suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from a local emergency room.

Detectives tracked Stoltz-Moore to an address in Cameron Park, however, he tried to run from them and a Police K9 was used to apprehend Stoltz-Moore, resulting in a minor injury. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of assault on a Peace Officer resulting in injury, hit-and-run, evading police causing injury, giving false identifying information, violation of probation, and resisting arrest.  Stoltz-Moore’s booking photo is attached.
