There are currently over 14,000 customers in Beaufort County reported by the various utility companies. They are currently working to restore power to their customers. There is a tree down near the intersection of Ribaut Road and Royal Palm Drive and damage to the causeway north of the Harbour Island Bridge. The causeway damage is in the lane heading toward Beaufort and will remporarily result in restricted access to and from Harbour, Hunting and Fripp Islands. South Carolina Department of Transportation is working to remove the tree and repair the causeway damage. Red Cross shelters at Bluffton High School and Battery Creek High School are open and will remain open until no longer needed. The Sheriff's Office is deploying a charging trailer for residents and guests to charge their mobile devices. The trailer will be located at the St. Helena Elementary School between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM today. We will keep you updated as additonal resources are deployed. The overall conditions in Beaufort County are substantially better than they were yesterday. Most of the flooding on the barrier islands receded overnight and the roadways are largely clear. We are waiting for the Governor's announcement this morning and look forward to welcoming our residents home and guests back to the barrier islands.
