Learn how you can assist your community in times of emergency

In the event of an area wide disaster, such as the recent floods in Texas, critical infrastructure and emergency services will be impacted. Some of the most inspiring stories emerging from the devastation in Houston are those of how the community has come together to help one another. If these stories resonate with you and you’ve been moved to learn how you might be of assistance, please consider joining the City of Los Altos Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) academy which begins September 12.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) academy trains residents to prepare for and respond to life-threatening events in their community. CERTs strengthen neighborhood resiliency and play a vital role in their City’s disaster response efforts. CERT members can mobilize neighborhood resources, deliver immediate assistance to victims, organize emergency communications and provide support to first responders.

CERT Training

The CERT academy consists of 6 nightly sessions and a final skills exercise. Students must attend all 7 class meetings to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Dates: September 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, and 28 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and September 30, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Hillview Community Center, Los Altos, CA
Cost: $35.00 (covers participant's safety equipment and training material)

Taking CERT training is easy, fun and a great way for your business or neighborhood to strengthen working and personal relationships that will be vital in responding to an emergency.

To register, call Santa Clara County Fire Department at (408) 378-4010 or register online at Eventbrite. To learn more about CERT training, visit sccfd.org.
