Your Animal's Safety in the Hot Weather
If you are a pet owner, you should be aware of the following basic information supplied by the American Red Cross, the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), the Humane Society, and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). We should review this information from time to time, especially when we are experiencing extremely hot weather.
- Provide fresh water and shade: When outside, animals must have access to fresh water and ample shade.
- Never leave your animal in a parked car in warm weather: Even with the windows cracked it can lead to heat stroke, death and it is illegal.
- Avoid hot pavement: If it’s too hot for bare feet, it’s too hot for bare paws.
- Never transport your animals in the bed of a pickup truck: They can be strangled if they jump out while they are tethered.
