On September 2, 2017 a community member contacted the Petaluma Police Department and reported a vehicle matching the description of the involved suspect vehicle in this incident was in the area of 1600 block of San Marino Drive.

Officers responded and contacted a suspect inspecting damage on the vehicle.  The suspect was later identified as 34 year old Petaluma resident Kelman GarciaDeleon.   GarciaDeleon denied any involvment in the hit and run collision but further investigation uncovered an involved party  who identified GarciaDeleon as the driver of the vehicle during the collision.

GarciaDeleon was placed under arrest for 20001(a) VC, Hit and Run with Injury and transported to Sonoma County Jail.

The Petaluma Police Department would like to express our gratitude to the community member who notified us of the suspect's vehicle location and helped us quickly identify and apprehend this suspect.

Incident:  Bicyclist hit by westbound vehicle on Caulfield Lane in Petaluma.

Incident Summary:

On Friday, September 1, 2017 at 8:08pm the Petaluma Fire Dept. and Petaluma Police Dept. responded to a bicycle collision on Caulfield Lane just west of S. McDowell Blvd. On scene a 68 year old male was found on the ground with lacerations on his legs, arms, and face.

It was determined that the bicyclist was traveling west on Caulfield Lane and was sideswiped by a motor vehicle driving the same direction. The collision caused the rider to be ejected from his bicycle and he was launched approximately 37’ where he came to rest in the roadway. The bicyclist was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The involved motorist fled the area prior to police arriving on scene. A witness stated a silver sport’s car was seen fleeing westbound on Caulfield Lane immediately after the collision.
