SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Resisting and Obstruction /Malicious Destruction of Property Arrest.

DATE AND TIME: Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at approximately 1:20 AM

LOCATION: Near the intersection of Elmwood and Fir Lane, Howard City

At approximately 1:20 AM on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious person complaint which led to the arrest of a Sand Lake man on several charges.

The initial report received was of a male running down the street, screaming and taking his clothes off. The Sheriff’s Deputy responded and spotted the male, later identified as David Nichols age 31. When confronted, Nichols charged the officer, pushed him aside, and began striking the patrol car. During the attempts to take Nichols into custody, Nichols resisted and fled. Nichols was apprehended and had to be tased numerous times. Nichols was eventually taken into custody with the assistance of two Troopers with the Michigan State Police. The Sheriff’s Deputy did sustain minor injuries during the altercation. He was treated at and released from a local hospital.

Nichols has been charged with one count of resisting an officer causing injury, two counts of resisting and obstructing an officer, and one count of malicious destruction of police property.

Nichols is currently held in the County Jail on a $5,000.00 bond.
