Advisory

Labor Day Weekend / Colorado River Enhanced Patrol Operations

DATE: August 30, 2017

EVENT: 2017 Labor Day Weekend / Colorado River Enhanced Patrol Operation

Friday, September 1 through Monday, September 4, 2017 the Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit will be conducting Labor Day Weekend Marine Enforcement Operations. Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting enhanced patrol operations on the waterways of the Colorado River, Lake Havasu, Park Moabi, and the Parker Strip. Deputies will be deployed from the Nevada State line to the Riverside County line on the water, land, and in the air and will be on the look out for those operating watercraft under the influence and in a reckless manner.

Persons found operating watercraft under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be arrested and booked into jail. Deputies will also be closely watching for children under the age of 13 without a life jacket while aboard a vessel, as required by law. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department encourages all persons to wear life jackets while on the waterways. It is a proven fact that life jackets save lives.

As a reminder, when approaching an emergency vessel on the water displaying flashing blue emergency lights, all operators are required to come to a steerable no wake speed and must not allow their wake to impact the emergency vessel. Operators in violation are subject to citation.

Other common violations include: Bow riding, transom riding, wake jumping, failure to have on board a Type IV throwable flotation device, a functioning fire extinguisher, and life jackets for all occupants.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is dedicated to providing a safe boating atmosphere for the public and urges everyone to boat sober and wear a life jacket.
