Rainfall amounts may exceed 6 inches in some locations. The heaviest rainfall is expected to affect the Mid-South Thursday and Thursday night, but periods of localized heavy rainfall will be possible through Friday. ...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING... The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of East Arkansas, North Mississippi, and West Tennessee, including the following areas, in East Arkansas, Crittenden, Lee, Phillips, and St. Francis. In North Mississippi, Benton, Coahoma, DeSoto, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, Quitman, Tate, and Tunica. In West Tennessee, Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lauderdale, Madison, Shelby, Tipton, and Weakley.

* From Wednesday afternoon through Friday evening

* Heavy rainfall is expected to develop across the Mid-South as the remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey moving northeast across the area. The heaviest rainfall is expected Thursday and Thursday night. Some areas may exceed 6 inches of rainfall.

* Sharp rises in creeks and small streams may occur. Low-lying areas may quickly become flooded. Low-lying areas in both urban and rural settings will be most prone to flooding. Travelers should be aware of these threat areas and avoid them if at all possible. In addition persons should avoid outside activity near culverts, ditches,and ravines as these have proven deadly during flash flood events.
