Deputies arrest David Virgen for felony evading and assault with a deadly weapon

DATE/TIME: August 26, 2017 / 7:00 P.M.

INCIDENT: Felony Evading (CVC 2800.2), Assault w/ a Deadly Weapon (PC 245)

LOCATION: Merris St / Old Greenspot Rd, City of Highland

SUSPECT(S): David Eric Virgen, 28 year old resident of San Bernardino

VICTIM(S): Confidential

SUMMARY: On Friday, August 25, 2017, at 5:15 p.m., Highland deputies responded to a report of a subject brandishing a firearm in the 29000 block of Merris St. in Highland. During the investigation, it was learned the suspect had allegedly pointed the firearm at the victim. Evidence located at the scene indicated the suspect discharged the firearm during the incident.

On Saturday, August 26, 2017, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Highland deputies observed the suspect's vehicle in the area of Merris St and Old Greenspot Rd. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on 5th St and Church Ave. The suspect failed to yield to the patrol unit and fled at a high rate of speed. During the pursuit, the suspect failed to stop for two red stop lights and drove on the wrong side of the roadway. The vehicle came to stop after suffering mechanical issues near the intersection of 5th St and Victoria Ave. The suspect, David Virgen, was taken into custody. Virgen's 9-year-old son was also in the car and was uninjured during the incident.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies located a large amount of money, suspected cocaine, a firearm, and ammunition. Virgen was arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center for PC 245 (Assault with a Deadly Weapon).
