MCB Dets. Seek Public’s Help ID'ing Suspects Who Committed Home Invasion Robbery in Calabasas, Reward Offered

Major Crimes Bureau Detectives Seek Public’s Help in Identifying Suspects Who Committed a Violent Home Invasion Robbery in Calabasas, Reward Offered

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau Burglary-Robbery Task Force (MCB BRTF) held a press conference this morning to discuss the events surrounding a violent home invasion robbery in the City of Calabasas. Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects and the two vehicles used in this vicious crime. The City of Calabasas has approved a reward in the amount of $5,000 in exchange for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.

During the afternoon of Sunday, August 6, 2017, a resident in 22500 block of Charlestown Drive, Calabasas heard a knock on the front door.  When he answered, he was contacted by two men, both wearing orange construction vests, later identified as suspects.  The resident opened the front door and was immediately assaulted by the two men who forced their way inside the location. The victim was forced back inside his home where the assault continued and the suspects bound his hands and feet with zip ties.  It was at this time a third male suspect entered the home and the suspects began pillaging the home for valuables.

As the suspects continued their foray, the second resident/victim returned home and walked in as the robbery was in progress.  The second victim was also assaulted, terrorized, and bound with zip ties by the suspects.  Within minutes, the suspects fled the location in two separate vehicles; a 2010-2015 black 5 or 7 Series BMW sedan, and a 2015-2017 dark grey Chevrolet Impala sedan. About a minute after the suspects fled, one of the victims, still bound, managed to dial 9-1-1 for help.

Deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s station arrived at the location and found the victims still bound. Deputies helped remove the bindings from the victims’ hands and feet. Paramedics on scene treated the victims for minor injuries. Although the victims were clearly traumatized by the viciousness of their ordeal, neither victim was hospitalized. The suspects took from the home cash, jewelry and personal valuables in excess of $200,000.

Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station detectives responded to the home and immediately initiated a joint investigation with the Major Crimes Bureau Burglary-Robbery Task Force (MCB BRTF). Detectives gathered home surveillance video which showed the suspects and the suspects’ vehicles.

Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance with any information leading investigators to identify the suspects depicted in the video.  The vehicles, which are also depicted in the video, may help lead to the identity and location of the suspects. Tips and information can be called in to (562)946-7187 or emailed to [email protected].

The Major Crimes Bureau Burglary-Robbery Task Force (MCB BRTF) offer the following tips to the public to help stay safe at home when strangers knock:
  • Residents are advised not to open their front doors to strangers.
  • Residents and neighbors are urged to call local law enforcement immediately if a suspicious person or vehicles are seen in their neighborhood.
  • If an unknown person knocks or rings your door bell, make your presence known (do not remain quiet giving the impression that no one is home).
  • Confirm you know who is at your door, prior to opening.
  • If unsure or concerned firmly, from within your residence, tell the person(s) you are calling local law enforcement.
The Major Crimes Bureau Burglary-Robbery Task Force (MCB BRTF) was formed over six years ago to combat the ever increasing trend of organized crews who are committing daytime residential burglaries.  Typically known as “Knock-Knock” burglars, these crews, often formed by gang members, utilize high-end luxury vehicles to blend into middle class and affluent neighborhoods where they break into homes and businesses ransacking and stealing valuables such as cash, jewelry, and weapons.   The MCB BRTF works closely in support of all Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station’s detective bureaus, as well as other Southern California law enforcement agencies.

Residents and business owners are reminded to secure their properties, be aware of suspicious and unusual persons or vehicles, and to alert their local law enforcement immediately if suspicious activity is observed.

Residents should call 911 if a life threatening emergency is detected and/or their local police business line if a suspicious person or vehicle is observed.  The MCB Burglary-Robbery Task Force can be contacted via e-mail at [email protected] for tips, questions, or concerns.
