Advisory

Motorcycle Officers from Rohnert Park and the CHP joined with Sebastopol PD today to address dangerous driving.

As part of the Sonoma County CITE program, three motorcycle officers from the California Highway Patrol and two motorcycle officers from the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety joined Sebastopol Police Department this morning in enforcing traffic laws in and around the City of Sebastopol.

The purpose of the Combined Intensive Traffic Enforcement program (CITE) is to increase safety on public roadways by addressing dangerous traffic violations by motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Officers focus their efforts on violations that are known to cause collisions or exacerbate injuries during collisions. At our request, assisting officers were positioned in the area of Sebastopol’s schools during the busy times and then focused on other reported problem locations afterwards.

Between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00am, officers issued a total of 25 citations for unsafe speed, cell phone usage and failing to wear seatbelts. Thirteen drivers received warnings rather than citations.

One of the visiting officers was impressed with the compliance of our motorists and was pleased to see how many drivers were following the rules of the road. We also received praise from officers about the friendliness of our citizens toward the police. We thank you for driving cautiously on our roadways and appreciate the support we receive from members of our community.
