Deputies conduct traffic stop and find a loaded firearm concealed in the vehicle

INCIDENT: Felon in Possession of Gun
LOCATION: Baseline Road / Peppertree Lane, San Bernardino
SUSPECT: Gashaw Hussian, 23-year-old resident of Moreno Valley
SUMMARY:
On August 16, 2017 at 12:50 p.m. Deputies Michael Schlegel and Deputy Guy Nicassio were assigned as a two-man unit patrolling the unincorporated area of San Bernardino. They observed an equipment violation on Gashaw Hussian's vehicle and conducted an enforcement stop. Upon contact with the driver(Hussian) deputies smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. After receiving verbal consent to search the vehicle, Deputy Schlegel located a loaded Smith and Wesson handgun on the front passenger seat concealed under a sweatshirt. A records check was conducted and Hussian had a domestic violence restraining order which prohibits him from carrying a firearm.
Gashaw Hussian was arrested without incident and booked into the Central Detention Center. Hussian was charged with PC25850(a), possession of a loaded firearm inside a vehicle, PC29835(a), prohibited possession of a firearm by a restrained person, and PC29805, possession of a firearm with a prior felony conviction.
