Advisory

Fall 2017 Citizen Police Academy to start September 12th. Application attached, apply today!

Chief Raymond Hayducka announced today that applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2017 South Brunswick Citizen Police Academy.  The Academy will give community members a behind the scenes look at policing. A dozen officers and detectives will share their perspective and insights into the daily workings of the police department.  Chief Hayducka said, “The demand for the Citizen Police Academy continues to grow every year.  This is an excellent opportunity for residents to meet and interact with the men and women serving you in your community daily.  Many of the previous participants explained that they had no idea all that police officers needed to know to do their job”.

The Academy will offer training on a range of law enforcement topics including motor vehicle laws, criminal law, and use of force.  In addition citizens will learn about crime scene processing, defensive tactic and internal affairs.  The Academy will culminate with a day of practical exercises were students will handle simulated motor vehicle stops, disputes, and other realistic scenarios.  The Academy will start on September 12th.  Classes will be held every Tuesday night in the training center at police headquarters for 11 weeks from 6:30pm-9:30pm. Gradation from the Academy is set for November 28th.

The Academy size is limited, so residents are encouraged to complete their application as soon as possible.  In order to be admitted into the Academy community members must complete and application and go through a screening process. The application for the Fall 2017 Academy is attached to this Nixle message. Interested community members should download the application, complete it and return it to [email protected].
