*UPDATE* #LASD Deputy-Involved Shooting, Imperial Hwy/Slater Av, Unincorporated Los Angeles

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are continuing their investigation into a Deputy-Involved Shooting that occurred Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at approximately 7:17 p.m., near Imperial Highway and Slater Avenue, unincorporated Los Angeles.

Deputies were patrolling the area of Imperial Highway and Slater Avenue. They noticed a suspicious vehicle parked on Slater Avenue, facing the wrong way on the street. The vehicle was occupied by the driver, and a male was standing outside of the vehicle. When the deputies approached, the male standing outside the vehicle ran eastbound through a driveway, and northbound across Imperial Highway, armed with a handgun. The deputies pursued the suspect as he ran into the housing development, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was struck at least one time in the torso. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect is described as a male Black in his 30’s. His identity is not being released at this time pending next of kin notification.

A handgun believed to belong to the suspect was found at the scene.

No deputies were injured in this incident.

TIME: 7:15 p.m.

LOCATION:    1300 block of 115th Street, Los Angeles

SUSPECT: Male Unknown

UNIT: LASD-Homicide Bureau, Lieutenant Mendoza
 
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are responding to the 1300 block of 115th Street, Los Angeles to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy-involved shooting. 


A male suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital where his condition is unknown.

No deputy personnel were injured.

There is no further information available at this time and the investigation is on-going.
 
Whenever a Deputy Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies and it results in the wounding of a suspect, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene.  These include separate investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau.  The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department immediately notifies the Office of the Inspector General who sends a representative to the incident scene and provides independent oversight throughout the investigative process.  Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.  The Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney also participates in the investigatory process and conducts a legal analysis of the shooting.
