Flood Advisory until 11:00PM

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Advisory for... South central Gaston County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...

* Until 1100 PM EDT

* At 759 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. 1-3 inches of rain has fallen over the past 2 hours. Additional rainfall of another inch is likely as new storms enter the region from the southwest.

* Some locations that may experience flooding include... Gastonia, Bessemer City, South Gastonia, Crowders Mountain State Park and Crowders.

* The following streams are experiencing rapid rises and may experience minor flooding: Crowders Creek, McGill Creek, South Fork Crowders Creek, Abernathy Creek, and Blackwood Creek.

* Urban flooding of poor-drainage and low-lying areas is likely, especially for the Gastonia area.

* The following roadways may experience flooding: .W. Hudson Blvd. at Blackwood Creek. .Archie Whiteside and Selwyn Streets at Abernathy and Crowders Creeks.

* AFFECTED AREAS: GASTON

Instructions:

Heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in urban areas, streets and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Rapid rises on small creeks and streams will also occur, possibly flooding low water crossings and farmland. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Turn around, dont drown. Please report flood water flowing over roads or threatening property, or landslides to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, or by posting on our Facebook page, or Tweet it using hashtag nwsgsp. your message should describe the event and the specific location where it occurred.
