Here is the Valencia Public Safety and Crime Information for the week of July 31, 2017 to August 6, 2017:

Monday 07/31/2017

- An assault with a deadly weapon took place near the 25000 block of Via Tanara. A male juvenile pointed a handgun at the victim as he walked near the paseo. The victim fled the location and called the Sheriff’s Department who quickly located the suspect. The suspect was arrested for the assault with a deadly weapon, receiving stolen property and being in possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. 
 
- Two incidents of petty theft occurred which resulted in both victim’s fog lights being stolen of their 2016 Honda Accords. 
 
 
Tuesday 08/01/2017
Two incidents of petty theft occurred near the 24000 block of Valencia Boulevard.  The male suspect walked into the location and tried on shoes. The suspect then fled the location on foot and never made an attempt to pay for the shoes. 
 
 
Wednesday 08/02/2017
A petty theft occurred near the 23000 block of Valencia Boulevard.  The victim scheduled a meeting for an unknown male to buy his cell phone. Once the suspect arrived at the scene he asked to see the victim’s cell phone. Once in possession of the cell phone the suspect ran off with the phone. 
 
The Special Victim’s unit of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a sexual assault that occurred near the 26000 block of Rockwell Canyon Road. 
 
Friday 08/04/2017
- A grand theft occurred near the 23000 block of Pike Lane.  The victim left her car window down approximately 2’’ during the overnight hours.  When she returned to her car in the morning she noticed numerous items from inside the car were missing. 
 
- A vehicle burglary occurred near the 27000 block of Edgewater Lane. An unknown suspect entered the victim’s unlocked car and stole several items from inside. 
 
Saturday 08/05/2017
A 2009 Kawasaki Ninja 250 motorcycle was stolen near the 26000 block of Avenue Hall.  
 
 As we all get ready to take the kids back to school, let’s try and remember these few safety tips to make this year as safest yet. 

School Zone Driving Safety Tips

  • Be on the lookout for school zone signals and ALWAYS obey the speed limits.
  • When entering a school zone, be sure to slow down and obey all traffic laws.
  • Always stop for school busses that are loading or unloading children.
  • Watch out for school crossing guards and obey their signals.
  • Be aware of and watch out for children near schools, bus stops, sidewalks, in the streets, in school parking lots, etc.
  • Never pass other vehicles while driving in a school zone.
  • Never change lanes while driving in a school zone.
  • Never make U-Turns while driving in a school zone.
  • Never text while driving in a school zone.
  • Avoid using a cell phone, unless it is completely hands-free, while driving in a school zone.
  • Unless licensed to do so, never use handicap or emergency vehicle lanes or spaces to drop off or pick up children at school.
