Anthony Pitts is arrested for the murder of 12-year-old Makiya Walls of Victorville

LOCATION:   17000 block of Monaco Drive, Victorville 

VICTIM:     Makiya Walls, age 12  a resident of Victorville   

SUSPECT:       Anthony Pitts, age 26 a resident of  Adelanto
         Danielle Cummings, age 29 a resident of Adelanto 
                       Reyna Mercado, age 28 a resident of Adelanto

Through investigation, Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators were able to identify Anthony Pitts as the suspect involved in the murder of Makiya Walls.  On Thursday, August 10th, at approximately 6:00 pm, members of Specialized Enforcement Division arrested Anthony Pitts leaving his mother’s home in Redlands.  Danielle Cummings and Reyna Mercado were arrested at the Victorville Police Station following interviews with Homicide Investigators.  Investigators determined there was an ongoing feud between the suspects and victims and, the victim’s residence was targeted by Pitts, Cummings and Mercado.  The suspect, Anthony Pitts is a documented gang member.

The three suspects  were transported and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Murder.

On Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at approximately 8:23 pm, deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to the report of multiple shots fired in the 17000 block of Monaco Drive.  Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, Makiya Walls, suffering from gunshot wounds, Medical personnel arrived on scene and the victim was rushed to a local area hospital, but despite life-saving measures, she was pronounced deceased at 9:57 pm.

Witnesses in the area advised deputies they observed a black male adult walking up to the residence armed with a shotgun, firing several rounds into the residence.  Witness also described a white, possible 4 door sedan unknown make or model speeding from the area immediately after the shots were fired.  

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division - Homicide Detail responded to the scene and are conducting the investigation.
