Precautionary Level 1 Evacuations from Canadian Border 4 miles South along SR 31 & Boundary Rd for a fire in Canada

For Immediate Release:
LEVEL 1 EVACUATIONS IN THE CANADIAN BORDER AREA

As of 6:00 PM, August 10, 2017, the area four miles south of the Washington/Canadian Border along State Highway 31 and Boundary Rd is under a Level 1 Evacuation status. This is a precautionary measure only.

At this time the McCormick Creek fire in Canada is NOT moving south toward Washington State but this is subject to changes in fire behavior and weather conditions. The fire is currently two miles north of the US Border

LEVEL 1 (GET READY)—A level 1 Evacuation “Get Ready”. Residents should be alert and aware of the danger that exists in their area, and monitor local media outlets for information. Residents with special needs (such as a susceptibility to breathing problems in wildfires or those with animals/pets) should take note and begin making arrangements to evacuate. For wildfires, smoke can often cause the most problems for residents, especially those sensitive to smoke and animals. Evacuations at this time are voluntary.

There are 10 residences in the Level 1 area in addition to the Nelway Port of Entry, Bounday Dam , Gardner Caves, Crescent Lake Campground.

Updates will be issued by NIXLE and the media as conditions change.
