Inmate death at the Sonoma County jail.

An inmate at the Sonoma County jail died this morning. At about 9:52 AM correctional staff called Sheriff Dispatch asking for an ambulance to respond to the Main Adult Detention Facility for an inmate who was having difficulty breathing and vomiting. An ambulance was immediately dispatched.

At 9:54 AM correctional staff stated the inmate went unresponsive and they started CPR. At 9:56 AM the first paramedic arrived at the jail and started assisting with lifesaving efforts. Shortly after, the man was pronounced deceased.

There are no indications this inmate was involved in a confrontation with anyone, nor does it appear to be a suicide. The Interim Sheriff invoked the Fatal Incident Protocol to allow another agency to conduct investigations. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investing agency and will conduct the death investigation and ensure the autopsy is completed by an outside coroner’s office.

All future press information will be handled through Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
