Emergency Kit for Pets
To many of us, our pets are thought of as members of the family. In the case of an emergency evacuation by the Sheriff’s Department for an earthquake, fire, flashflood, or any other natural disaster, you should always be prepared and have your pet’s emergency kit ready to go. Imagine looking into your pets eyes knowing that you can’t feed them or even give them water because you didn’t prepare. The following is a list of the minimum supplies that you should have in your pet’s emergency kit:
2 week supply of water in plastic gallon jugs
Cage/carrier for each animal labeled with your contact information
Manual can opener
Cat/wildlife gloves
Copies of veterinary records and proof of ownership including photos
Emergency contact list
Familiar items to make pets feel comfortable, such as favorite treats, blankets, or toys
Leash, collar, or harness for each animal with contact information
Litter, litter pan, litter scoop
Muzzles
Newspaper and bedding
Food and water dishes
Paper towels
Spoon for canned food
Trash bags
First aid kit (contact your veterinarian for a list of supplies)
