Victor Valley Sheriff Station hands out backpacks to children in Adelanto
Deputies David Moore, Michael Otey and Sheriff’s Service Specialist George Ramirez from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Free Multi-Housing Unit and Deputy Katie Merrill of the Youth Outreach Support Team visited an apartment community in Adelanto passing out backpacks to children. The children, who were not expecting a visit from local law enforcement officers, were excited and proud to receive their new school backpacks which were filled with various school supplies.
The backpacks were donated by Angela Toft, CEO of Toft Public Affairs, to the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station to provide to local children. It is through community partnerships that we are able come together and better assist the families in our community.
As your children are returning back to school after summer break, please review the following safety tips with your children:
1. If someone you don’t know offers you a ride, say NO.
2. Always use the buddy system. This is important while walking to school AND while waiting at the bus stop.
3. If someone bothers you while going to or from school, get away from that person and immediately tell a trusted adult.
4. If an adult approaches you for help or directions, remember adults needing help should NEVER ask children for help, they should ask other adults. Get away from that person and tell a trusted adult.
5. If you want to change your plans after school, always talk with your parent or guardian FIRST.
