INCIDENT: Fatal Boat Accident

LOCATION: Lake Havasu/ Between Havasu Landing and Windsor Beach State Park


SUMMARY: On August 6, 2017 at approximately 9:30 pm, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department/Colorado River Boating Deputies responded to a fatal boating accident between Havasu Landing and Windsor Beach State Park on Lake Havasu. The Operator and 5 passengers left the Havasu Landing Marina in a 25 foot Carrera Deck boat. The vessel was traveling East toward Windsor Beach State Park, when a 28 foot Eliminator traveling north with 3 passengers, collided with the vessel. A total of six subjects, three passengers from each vessel were ejected into the water. A passenger from the Carrera was able to remove all of the subjects from the water and onto his vessel. The Eliminator sank a short time after the collision. With all of the involved parties accounted for, the Carrera continued to Windsor Beach where the parties were treated by Lake Havasu Fire. Four subjects were transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center, one subject was later air lifted to Sunrise Medical Center Las Vegas, NV. The operator of the Eliminator was pronounced deceased at the scene. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision, the investigation is ongoing.
