UPDATE:
ATTEMPT KIDNAPPING SUSPECT IN-CUSTODY
ARRESTED: JOSE DIAZ SERVELLON, HISPANIC MALE, 29-YEARS OLD, PASADENA RESIDENT, BAIL SET AT $1 MILLION

PASADENA, CA –A 29-year-old suspect was arrested at about 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 5, in connection with the attempted kidnapping of a young woman on July 29 after a concerned citizen contacted the Pasadena Police Department in response to the
Department’s news release about the suspect description and suspect vehicle.

On Saturday, July 29, 2017, at approximately 8:05 p.m., an adult female victim was walking home in the 100 block of West Maple Street. As she walked, she noticed a male standing on the sidewalk near the opened passenger door of his vehicle. Once the
victim walked past the suspect, the suspect pulled her by the hair causing her to turn and fall to the ground. The suspect managed to drag the victim a short distance despite her physical efforts to resist. As this struggle between the victim and suspect continued for a brief period, a witness who was driving by saw the struggle and decided to stop.

This action by the witness caught the attention of the suspect, who then released the
victim. The suspect got into the driver’s side of the suspect vehicle and drove away westbound on Maple Street and onto the 134 Freeway. Yesterday, on Friday, August 4, 2017, at approximately 12:15 p.m., the Pasadena
Police Department issued a community update/news release via the Internet through www.nixle.com, providing a photograph of the suspect vehicle and a composite sketch of the suspect. The same afternoon, a concerned citizen called the Department and told a Police Detective Anthony Russo that he had seen a vehicle similar to the photograph of the suspect vehicle at a specific location.

Pasadena Police Detectives and Investigators assigned to the Department’s Special Investigation Unit initiated surveillance in the vicinity of the 300 block of Tamarac Drive in Pasadena. The suspect was identified and arrested in the 300 block of Tamarac Drive in Pasadena without incident.
