Vehicle Pursuit, Endangering Safety

On August 1st 2017 at 1:49 pm, Officers from the Janesville Police Department were dispatched to a hit and run accident at 444 Midland Rd. Officer Schumann was one of the first officers on scene.

The description of the suspect vehicle was somewhat vague. Officer Schumann located a vehicle that was similar to the description provided. He made contact with the driver of that vehicle, Masha T Geter. Masha said she was not involved in the accident. Officer Schumann learned that Masha had valid warrant through The Whitewater Police Department.

Officer Schumann gave her the opportunity to call a family member to let them know what was going on. As she was calling her mother, Masha started the vehicle. Officer Schumann said No No No as he reached for the keys. While they struggled for the keys, Masha put the vehicle in drive nearly hooking Officer Schumann’s arms in the steering wheel as she sped away. Officer Schumann was barely able to get free as she swerved nearly hitting him as she fled.

Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit to catch up with the suspect. The officers terminated the pursuit with in 3 minutes. A short time later, a crash was reported in the county involving Masha Geter. The Wisconsin State Patrol took her in to custody and transported her to the Rock County Sheriff’s Department.

Officer Schumann was uninjured in the incident. The pursuit was terminated by The Janesville Police Department before the crash, and officers were not involved in that accident. The pursuit lasted for 3 minutes and went 1.2 miles. Masha Geter is currently in custody at the Rock County Jail for her charges.
