Modesto, CA – Detectives arrested a suspect today in connection to an armed robbery that occurred earlier this morning.

The robbery occurred at around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. The clerk from the AM/PM at 5th and I St in Modesto reported that a white male adult came into the business and stole food items. The clerk ran after the suspect and the suspect pulled a handgun on the clerk.
The clerk said a citizen, who was also armed, tried to intervene in the parking lot. The unidentified citizen tried to stop the suspect and the citizen and suspect exchanged gunfire. It does not appear that anyone was injured.
The robbery was not reported to Modesto Police until 7:00 a.m. When officers responded all the involved parties were gone. The business did manage to record the suspect and his vehicle on the store’s security cameras.
At approximately 11:00 Officer Troy Cross received information about a possible location for the suspect’s car. Officer Cross located the car and notified detectives. As the case was being investigated officers spotted a male, who matched the description of the suspect, leave a house 2100 block of Palisade Av in Modesto. The suspect was detained during a traffic stop. Several other people were detained at the residence and taken to the Modesto Police Department for questioning.
