July 27, 2017

Harris County Sheriff’s Office Robbery investigators have charged Cortez Harris, the third suspect in a jewelry store robbery that occurred on July 25, 2017, at around 2:45 P.M. in northwest Harris County Texas.

The robbery suspects consisted of three males, Cortez Harris, Jeremy Gomez, and Michael Mitchell, who entered the Your Jeweler’s store located in the 12100 block of Jones road.

The three suspects entered the store armed with handguns and demanded merchandise and cash.

The 66-year-old owner was beaten by the suspects during the struggle; he was able to retrieve a handgun and fired multiple times at the three suspects.

Jeremy Gomez and Michael Mitchell were both shot during the exchange of gunfire.

All three suspects then fled to a vehicle parked at a nearby carwash.
A short time later a call for service was received that Jeremy Gomez was dropped off at a local hospital in the area with multiple gunshot wounds.

Another call for service was received from a residence in the 15600 Rosehearty Lane that a male’s body was lying in the roadway.

Homicide Investigators said the male was identified as Michael Mitchell and he’d sustained a fatal wound during the robbery.
Emergency Medical services pronounced Mitchell deceased on the scene.
On July 27, 2017, information was obtained that Cortez Harris had fled to the San Antonio, Texas area.

Members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force conducted surveillance on a residence in north east San Antonio.

When Harris and two other individuals exited the home and entered a vehicle, Task Force members conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Suspect Cortez Harris got out of the vehicle and surrendered without incident.

United States Deputy Marshal’s escorted Harris back to Harris County, where he is charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

Harris is currently being held on $250,000 dollar bond in the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
