1800 Hours

Metaline Falls, WA –The Noisy Creek Fire on the southwest side of Hall Mountain is now 410 acres, burning in heavy timber on a steep, rugged slope.

Closures: National Forest System (NFS) Road No. 2200500 is closed from its intersection with NFS Road No. 2200 to its terminus at the Hall Mountain Trailhead. Noisy Creek Campground is closed for public and firefighter safety. All travel is prohibited on the following NFS Trails: Lakeshore Trail No. 504; Noisy Creek Trail No. 588; Hall Mountain Trail No. 540; Hall Mountain-Grassy Top Trail No. 533; Grassy Top Trail No. 503 from Pass Creek Pass to its intersection with Hall Mountain-Grassy Top Trail No. 533.

Yesterday the overall fire behavior was moderate with the fire actively burning in the interior. Firefighting crews continued to hold the fire line at Noisy Creek on the south end of the fire perimeter. A large smoke column was visible from northern areas of Pend Oreille County and higher elevations of Stevens and Ferry County.

Today firefighters are actively working to keep the fire north of Noisy Creek. The fire has had increased activity on the upper third of Hall Mountain, the ridgeline is holding as the fire is backing down the mountain. Fire crews continue to use the aviation resources for bucket drops of water on hot spots. Smoke will continue to be visible from the northern areas of Pend Oreille County and higher elevations of Stevens and Ferry County. No structures are threatened at this time. Steep terrain, snags and rolling debris continue to be a hazard.

PUBLIC MEETING: Will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Ione Baptist Church, 124 Main Street, Ione, WA (509)442-3610. The purpose of this meeting is to brief the communities on the status of the fire and the closures that are in effect at this time.

Weather: The forecasted weather for the next couple of days will be hot and dry. Winds have been moderate with some gusts to 15 mph out of the West/Southwest. As the weather stays warm, the fire will experience moderate fire behavior with some isolated pockets of torching trees and potential short uphill runs.
