At 8:49 p.m. last night, the Newport Beach Police Department was notified of a single-vehicle traffic collision near the intersection of San Miguel Drive and Pacific View Drive. Officers arriving on scene found a grey Ford Fusion with a single occupant, a female driver. Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was travelling westbound on Pacific View Drive when it left the roadway and collided with a light standard. Excessive speed appears to be a contributing factor in the collision.
Newport Beach Fire Department staff responded to the collision, but the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the driver is not available at this time, pending identification and notification of her next of kin by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.
