Missing Person

**UPDATE 07-25-17: A press conference will be held today at 10am at the Janesville Police Department regarding the recovery of a body from the Rock River.

**UPDATE 07-24-17: The search for Dakota Giese continues today. Divers from the Janesville Fire Department, Rock County Sheriff's Office and personnel from the Department of Natural Resources are coordinating efforts to continue the search of the river near the area where Dakota was last seen.

Janesville Police Department investigators are continuing the investigation into this incident. As of this time, no new information has come to light which would indicate foul play in Dakota's disappearance.

Earlier this morning searchers located what appeared to be two vehicles completely submerged under water just north of the Centerway bridge. Efforts are currently underway to recover the vehicles. At this time we do not believe the vehicles are associated with the disappearance of Dakota Giese.

**UPDATE....Search and Recovery efforts are underway this morning on the Rock River in coordination with the Janesville Fire Department and Rock County Sheriff's Office to locate a missing person from last night. The person missing is being identified as Dakota R. Giese (21) of Janesville. Giese was last seen in the river on west side near the Mineral Point trailhead. Since Giese has not been located and being considered a missing person, we are requesting any information that would place him in an area other than the river.

On 07-22-2017 at 6:46 PM Janesville Police and Fire were dispatched for a Janesville man in the river north of the Centerway bridge. A witness saw a man fall into the river and last saw him in the middle of the river, where the man went under and didn’t resurface.

The Janesville Fire Department put boats in the water and requested assistance from the Rock County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team. The area where the witness said they last saw the subject was searched with sonar and divers. The search efforts were suspended around 9:30 PM due to night fall and the river conditions. Search efforts will resume in the morning.

At this time there is no evidence of foul play but the case remains open and the investigation continues.
