Storm Alert - Heavy Rain & Damaging Winds
STORM ALERT
WEATHER THREAT: Heavy Rain & Damaging Wind Gusts
TIME PERIOD: 4PM Today - 4AM Sunday (Main Threat 9PM - 2AM)
Scattered thunderstorms will start to develop late this afternoon (after 4PM) as the first of multiple disturbances makes its way into the mid-Atlantic states. Activity will be rather scattered/isolated this afternoon, but storms that do develop will contain heavy downpours and potentially damaging wind gusts (30-50mph+)... this is actually the better severe threat if anything pops up.
The main threat for heavy rain and flooding will be 9PM-2AM, though some damaging wind gusts will still be possible with the heaviest rain (especially early on). With abundant moisture available, heavy downpours with 1.00-2.00"/hour rainfall rates could result in localized 1.50-3.00"+ amounts... leading to poor drainage and roadway flash flooding. Widespread showers and storms taper off 1-3am with any lingering showers ending by daybreak.
SEVERE WEATHER DAMAGING WINDS LOW - 30-50+mph wind gusts in strongest storms/downpours (but better threat is south of the area)
LIGHTNING FREQUENCY MODERATE - Plenty of lighting with any storms this afternoon, but energy diminishes into the evening and overnight
FLOODING ROAD / POOR DRAINAGE HIGH - 1-2"+/hour rainfall rates possible with heaviest downpours with localized rainfall totals of 1.50-3.00"+ possible.
