50-year-old Santa Rosa man died at Lake Sonoma yesterday.

A Santa Rosa man died yesterday at Lake Sonoma. Deputies were called to the private marina at Lake Sonoma at about 12:45 PM on a call of a deceased man. Upon their arrival, paramedics on scene had pronounced 50-year-old David Hartsough deceased.

Deputies conducted an investigation and found that Hartsough was with two friends, described as a man and a woman and their child on a jet boat which belonged to the friends. They had just arrived at Lake Sonoma and were near the Warm Springs arm of the lake when their boat’s engine malfunctioned. Shortly thereafter an inner-tube flew off the front deck of the boat and floated away. Hartsough jumped from the boat and started swimming for the tube. When he got close to the tube he started yelling for help.

The woman jumped off the boat and swam to Hartsough and reached him just as he went under water. When she grabbed him she noticed he wasn’t breathing. They flagged down a nearby boater who stopped to help. They were able to get Hartsough into their boat and they drove him to the private marina where they conducted CPR until paramedics arrived.

At this time, Hartsough’s cause of death isn’t known and an examination by the Coroner’s Office is pending. Our condolences go out to his friends and family.
