Reported on: 7/8/2017
While the victims were away during the day, an unknown suspect attempted to pry open two sets of glass French doors. One of the victims discovered the damaged wood around the deadbolt later that day. The victims had locked all the doors and activated their alarm before leaving for the day.
Loss: No loss.
Suspect Information: None seen or heard.
Alarm activation: 7-8-17 at 11:02 p.m.
An unknown suspect shattered a lower portion of a large glass door, leading into the victim’s kitchen. The suspect was able to crawl through the hole and once inside ransacked several rooms before fleeing.
Loss: Unknown at the time of the report.
Suspect Information: None seen or heard.
An unknown suspect shattered a double pane window located next to a downstairs French door. Once inside, the suspect went upstairs and rummaged through several rooms before fleeing back out the hole in the window. It appears that the suspect accessed the victim’s backyard through the neighbor’s backyard because a patio chair had been moved and used to climb over the wall. There is a footpath that runs along the back of the homes.
The victims had been out to dinner and discovered the shattered window when they returned home.
Loss: Purses (2)
Suspect Information: None seen or heard.
An unknown suspect shattered a glass door on the second story balcony, which lead into the master bedroom and bath. Once inside, the suspect ransacked the closet and several empty jewelry boxes were discovered on the bathroom vanity. The suspect moved a large safe from the closet, scratching the stone floor. It appears that the safe was taken back out the hole in the window and somehow lowered down from the balcony. There was no damage to the ground below, now patio furniture stacked and no evidence of a ladder on the property.
The victims were out of town when the burglary occurred and the shattered window was discovered by the gardener. The alarm was not on during the time of the burglary.
Loss: Safe and possible jewelry.
Suspect Information: None seen or heard.

Home Security Tips
- Always lock your windows and doors when you go out, even if for only a few minutes.
- If you return home and find your pedestrian door that leads into your home locked, and you are certain that you left it unlocked, DO NOT GO INSIDE!
- Call 9-1-1 ~ Burglars often lock this door to slow down a victim, allowing the burglar extra time to get out of the home before the resident enters.
- If your home is equipped with an alarm, always activate it even if you’re only going out for a short walk.
- Consider adding a motion sensor in your master bedroom/bathroom, which will activate the alarm if someone comes in through a glass window or door without opening it.
- Always keep your front and rear porch lights on from dusk to dawn and use motion detector lighting along the sides of your home or areas with little foot traffic.
- Use timers on indoor lamps to give the appearance that you are home.
- Adjust window coverings for optimal privacy while maintaining good visibility outside.
- If your garage door has a remote shutoff button on the wall-mounted control, located in the garage, consider locking the door nightly. This will prevent your garage door from being opened remotely.
- If you have a safe, make sure that it is properly bolted to concrete so that it cannot be easily removed.
- Always close and lock your safe and never leave a key or combination out or in an easy to find location (i.e. office, nightstand, etc).
- When you leave on vacation, remember to call the Police Department for a “Vacation Check” 949-644-3681 or sign-up online at www.nbpd.org. Also, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to pick up your newspaper and mail while you are away.
