Steelhead Beach drowning victim identified; corrections to preliminary press release

The man who drowned at Steelhead Beach on Sunday has been identified as 21-year-old Carmelino Domingo-Garcia from Oakland.

Domingo-Garcia was with a group of friends and family on a sandbar about 300 yards upstream from the main beach at Steelhead Beach. Domingo-Garcia swam across the river to the shore, then began swimming back. He went under the water on the way back to his friends and family and did not resurface.

Domingo-Garcia was found at the bottom of the river in a deeper pool of water approximately five feet deep. It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in his death.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection personnel and Sonoma County Regional Parks personnel, not State Parks personnel, also assisted in the efforts to locate Domingo-Garcia.
