Deputy talks suicidal subject out of jumping off of freeway overpass.

SUBJECT: Anthony Martinez, 30-year old Victorville resident
LOCATION: Mojave Drive / Interstate 15, Victorville
SUMMARY:
On June 6, 2017, Deputies from the Victorville Police Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the Mojave Drive overpass at Interstate 15, in reference to a subject threatening to jump from the bridge.
Upon arrival, deputies located Anthony Martinez outside of the security fence, above southbound freeway traffic. Martinez was in possession of a large kitchen knife and suffered self-inflicted wounds to the wrists. Deputy Wurm was able to talk with Martinez, building a rapport. Wurm convinced the subject to drop the knife and after several minutes, deputies were able to hoist Martinez from the freeway sign and onto the bridge, out of harms way.
Martinez suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.
