SCPD and SCFD Partner to Offer Joint Training
The City of Santa Clara partnered with Santa Clara Unified School District for the use of Buchser Middle School to offer a full-day training for all police and fire personnel on response to an active assailant attack. The tactics performed in the training have been developed by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security following their investigation of past school shooting incidents in the United States.
Each Fall, the Police Department’s School Services Unit also offers “Run, Hide, Defend” training to educators, support staff, administrators and students at each K-12, public school. Through lecture, videos and discussion, the program breaks down actions recommended for responding to an armed assailant until law enforcement arrives.
In addition, the Police Department offers Active Shooter Prevention and Preparedness training to businesses and places of worship in the Santa Clara community. The next course is July 18 from 8:30am-9:30am at the Police Building. Pre-registration is required. For more information, call (408)615-4892.
